Mjölnir, Mjolnir, Thors Hammer, Viking Mythology, Heathen, Repton Hammer Pendant
The Repton Hammer, so called because it was found at Repton, was found buried with its owner. Archaeologist think that the owner was probably a warrior with the Great Heathen army who camped there over the winter of 874, having previously conquered Northumbria and Mercia. It was found still hung around it's owners neck.
This is a gold gilded pewter version of the Repton Hammer. Gilding, or gold plating, was carried out on many jewellery items in the Viking age, using the mercury gilding process. This piece has a 1 micron thick layer of gold, plated over pewter, to give an attractive representation of what some of these Viking age pieces may have looked like when they were first made. The hammer is cast by our supplier Asgard.scot in Scotland, UK.
